We had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells in California (near Palm Springs) with the kids. We had been traveling by plane, train, and car for weeks by the time we got to the resort. We had been hiking and enjoying the great outdoors, visiting many of our nation’s wonderful National Parks, and we were ready to just chill out for a couple of days. This hotel fit that bill perfectly. We spent 2 days and nights there without leaving, and were recharged enough to continue on our journey.

What we liked:

• The Pools – This resort has seven pools! If you have kids, then I almost don’t have to say anything else and this review can end here. My kids can swim all.day.long. There are times when we have to force them out of the pool because they are starting to turn into waterlogged freaks. They loved bopping around from pool to pool at this hotel. Although each of the pools is not that different from one another, the novelty factor helped make a day at the pool feel special. And it was over 100 degrees, so the pool situation was even more welcome to us road-weary travelers.

• The Kids Club – We have stayed at several Hyatt hotels that have offered kids clubs (aka band in the hotel lounge and had an adult beverage.

• Hyatt Diamond experience – Because of our Hyatt Diamond status (you can read more about what that means here), we were given an upgrade to a beautiful, large suite. It had 2 bathrooms, a bedroom, and a separate living area with a huge sofa (pull-out sleeper too). The balcony was enormous and well furnished. Because we were there in the off-season (it’s HOT in August!), the Regency Club lounge was not open. Instead we were given a free full buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant each day. The food was wonderful. We were also given a bottle of wine and some snacks in the room.

• The Grounds and Hotel – Everything was spotless and well-maintained. The hotel looked and felt updated. Even in the sweltering heat, the hotel ground looked beautiful. Our suite was clean and looked fresh and new.

We experienced no issues while we were at the hotel, so I cannot even make a section for things that we disliked. It was so hot that enjoying things like the huge balcony was difficult, but that has nothing to do with the hotel itself. The rates were low because of it. We booked using American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts (which we were able to access because of our Amex Platinum card), which gave us access to great rates plus some extras like a $100 resort credit.
